In Defense of a Liberal Education by Fareed Zakaria.
3/5 rating.
Book #87 of 2019. Read July 17, 2019.

This book did a pretty good job of showing the benefits of liberal education even for improved job prospects because of the tenants taught through college-level liberal arts degrees. At the very least, there is certainly much to be said that a liberal education, “may not help make a living, but it will help make a life.”
Quotes:
“Despite ranking twenty-seventh and thirtieth in the subject, respectively, American and Israeli students come out right at the top in their belief in their own abilities.”
“In 2011, 75 percent [of millennials] made a donation to a charity, 71 percent raised money for one, and 57 percent volunteered, ‘more than any other generation.’”
“Because of the times we live in, all of us, young and old, do not spend enough time and effort thinking about the meaning of life. We do not look inside of ourselves enough to understand our strengths and weaknesses, and we do not look around enough – at the world, in history – to ask the deepest and broadest questions.”
