This book is about a 9-year old girl who gets lost in the Maine woods just off of the Appalachian Trail and her fight to be found and stay alive.

Trisha is out for a hike with her brother and mom walking along in her Red Sox ballcap and occasionally thinking – and eventually talking – to her hero (and crush) Tom Gordon. She takes a stop to get off the trail really quickly for a bathroom break. Unfortunately, she never makes it back onto the trail and only goes deeper into the woods.

She is quite resourceful for a young kid, and therefore manages to survive out in the wilderness for many days: battling sickness, hunger, thirst, and SOMETHING that’s out in the woods. This thing is just out of sight and might represent our primordial fear of the unknown. The issue is that just because we are afraid of the unknown, doesn’t mean there isn’t something behind it with a good reason to be terrified. It’s out there and waiting for just the right time to strike at Trisha in her weakest state. She’s got to figure out how to escape the woods and be found before it’s too late…
