A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein.
2/5 rating. 169 pages.
Book #3 of 2022. Read January 9, 2022.

I remember enjoying some Shel poems as a kid – and I LOVE “The Giving Tree” – but I thought most of these poems were nonsense, morbid, or just straight sad. There’s a lot of gruesome deaths in this book of poems for kids.
I think these might appeal more to children where the zaniness is an asset, but reading through these as an adult…not so much. There also are plenty of these poems that basically teach your kids to be brats. So maybe don’t even get it for your kids?
I like a lot of poetry, just this book of it, not so much. About all I can say is that it was thankfully pretty quick.
I did like this quote from one of the poems:
“How much good inside a day?
Depends how good you live ’em.
How much love inside a friend?
Depends how much you give ’em.”
Additional Quotes:
“I keep meeting all the right people –
At all the wrong times.”
