This was an okay book about how to “show up” for both ourselves and the people around us.

I thought that the advice in here was decently worthwhile. There were useful tidbits about looking after yourself in more ways than just the physical and mental ways always stated. The talk about being there for friends and working through some different scenarios of tough conversations with friends or partners that ran the gambit from small annoyances, to being completely unsupportive, and even beyond I thought were good.

That being said, overall, this was just your average self-help book only written from a younger person’s point of view. Ideas like take care of yourself, be kind, show grace and give yourself grace were the main takeaways. These are obviously incredibly important, but nothing that couldn’t have been said in like 10 pages unless you need one of the specific cases she talks about.

I did like these two quotes, though:

  • “If you don’t decide how you want to live your life, other people will decide for you.”
  • “Give what you have, and trust that that will be enough.”
Additional Quotes:

“Well, a 2018 Pew Research Center Survey found that one in ten adults in the US report feeling lonely or isolated ‘all or most of the time.’”
