This is the book behind the now-famous Tom Hanks movie.

Robert Langdon is again caught up in a wide-ranging conspiracy (the man really seems to have more than his fair share!) after he is awakened and taken to the Louvre, where the curator has been murdered. Jacques Sauniére spent the last minutes of his life making a wide array of symbols that lead Robert and the cryptologist Sophie Neveu on a crazy adventure.

Their ultimate goal? To find the Holy Grail! All while dodging the police, a murderous albino, and the Church.

This is another phenomenal, fun read by Dan Brown. If you are looking for a great adventure-filled, history-packed, mysterious thriller, this is definitely the book for you! Or if you liked the movie and want to see how the story actually goes – the book is better: it’s always better!!

Quotes:

“‘Princess,’ he smiled. ‘Life is filled with secrets. You can’t learn them all at once.’”

“‘What I mean,’ Teabing countered, ‘is that almost everything our fathers taught us about Christ is false‘”

“The power of the female and her ability to produce life was once very sacred, but it posed a threat to the rise of the predominantly male Church, and so the sacred feminine was demonized and called unclean. It was man, not God, who created the concept of ‘original sin,’ whereby Eve tasted of the apple and caused the downfall of the human race. Woman, once the sacred giver of life, was now the enemy.”

“By its very nature, history is always a one-sided account.”

“‘In my experience,’ Teabing said, ‘men go to far greater lengths to avoid what they fear than to obtain what they desire.’”
