5) An Introduction to the Environmentalism Section

Environmentalism: never has  an idea that is so simple and has such positive results been surrounded by such controversy. I kinda get it; the majority of people who speak about this topic take the complete wrong approach. I whole-heartedly stand behind their end goals. They see negative consequences from peoples’ apathy about our Earth hurting the environment and many other organisms in it and jump to spark a change. What is misunderstood is that this might be doing more harm than good.

The interesting thing is that I don’t believe anyone wants to hurt the environment. No one wakes up saying, “I really hope I can poison an ecosystem today” or even, “I hope I get the opportunity to litter this morning.” People just don’t think about how the little things can have a major impact. It’s only a combination of everyone’s small actions that begin hurting the Earth around us.

I recently saw a video of a sea turtle having an entire plastic straw pulled out of its nose by some people who realized it was struggling. The look of pain, mixed with its cries, was completely heartbreaking, and almost made me sick. I appreciate the thoughts of the people who shared this hoping it would stop people from using straws (something I would recommend to you if you would like to start small). But this is much more likely to turn off people than end the widespread use of straws. Yes; there is a certain wow factor that makes people react, but as it hasn’t really helped yet, some other strategies need to be used.

Though I personally have seen ample evidence to believe that we as a species are deeply impacting our world in a very negative way, I don’t think you need to share this view to think that environmentalism is important. My plan for this section is to write many blog posts and share how environmentalism can help you in all sorts of ways. My main motivation is to save the environment, but my goal is to have you share my views on the importance of this whether your motivation is going green or to make it.

I implore you to come back regularly and check out what you can do to save the environment while saving money, getting healthier, and doing so much more. I will be working on this section, and aim to release a few posts on environmentalism per month: I’ll be back soon. Let’s change the world together!
