We Should All Be Feminists by Ngozi Adiche.
2/5 rating. 48 pages.
Book #9 of 2023. Read April 4, 2023.

This is a short book that was fine, but I didn’t feel like I gained anything from this book.
Chimamanda gives plenty of instances of gross sexism in today’s Nigeria that show some of the backward practices still present around the world. She also presents some examples from the US which are more implicit issues of sexism. She then talks about why we all need to fight against these.
I think my issue with the book is it seems so obvious that we need to all push for greater equality, and rights for women in order to bring more parody that I just felt like there was literally nothing I learned while reading.
This is unfortunate because this book came about from a TedTalk which I’m sure represented Chimamanda’s arguments and life experiences in a much more vivid and concrete way which probably reiterated the need for more feminism much better.
In short, if you don’t support more power for women (and yes, that even includes at the expense of men in some instances) you need to do some soul-searching. But I think there are much better books to bring about some of the specifics and implementation of this.
