This is the classic book about Dorothy and her travels in the land of the Wizard of Oz.

The story follows a lot of the adventures from the film. It is obvious that this book is a children’s book as there are a bunch of obstacles and challenges to overcome, but each of them is a complete anticlimactic event. You get about halfway through and the way for Dorothy to get home is by killing the Wicked Witch. She gets mad and throws water on her and she dies. That’s basically the whole event and yet this is supposed to be a huge moment.

The book is fine, though kind of  incredible that they made a movie out of it, since it probably took me about as long to read the book as it would to watch the movie. I think there are a vast array of better kid’s stories to explore than this.

Quotes:

“Experience is the only thing that brings knowledge, and the longer you are on earth the more experience you are sure to get.”

“There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger. The true courage is in facing danger when you are afraid, and that kind of courage you have in plenty.”
