The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis.
2/5 rating. 209 pages.
Book #15 of 2022. Read March 13, 2022.

These are a series of satirical letters from the demon Screwtape to his protege Wormwood.
I didn’t really get the hype about these letters. Screwtape advises Wormwood throughout about a myriad of ways to win over his patient’s soul to the devil. As Lewis was a staunch Christian, this is a commentary on the ways that Christians fall into sin and away from God.
The only really good thing about this book is that it was relatively short and had a few really good quotes:
“As one of the humans has said, active habits are strengthened by repetition but passive ones are weakened. The more often he feels without acting, the less he will be able ever to act, and, in the long run, the less he will be able to feel.”
“I now see that I spent most of my life in doing neither what I ought nor what I liked.”
“For the Present is the point at which time touches eternity…in it alone freedom and actuality are offered them.”
“[L]et them think they have solved by Love problems they have in fact only waived or postponed under the influence of the enchantment.”
I would skip this book and go onto another read, I didn’t think it was worth the time.
