Beowulf translated by J. Lesslie Hall.

2/5 rating.

Book #14 of 2020. Read March 7, 2020.

Though this is considered a historically important epic from around 1,000 CE, it is really pretty boring and I didn’t really think worth a read.

The story is about Beowulf, a hero who is forced to fight Grendel, Grendel’s mother, and a dragon to free people (both his and other clans) from their deadly scourges. While this sounds like it should be interesting, the book consists almost entirely of parties, and storytelling. The actual battles, especially of the first two foes last about 5 lines each.

If you are going to read an epic from history, I really would suggest you choose one of the numerous other ones!
