Book #7 of 2024. “13 Things Mentally Strong People Don’t Do” by Amy Morin. 3/5 rating. 251 pages.
This book focuses on the aspects of life that are keeping you from your optimal life of happiness and success.
Amy talks about the ideas of focusing on pitfalls on the way to success. A lot of focus today is on the things we need to do right. This makes sense! It’s important to know what we need to do in our life to make it successful in our eyes, but that’s not the only thing that matters. It’s easy to say that you should go exercise, but if you missed how important diet is and eat a dozen donuts every weekend, it is going to be nearly impossible to meet any goal of health.
Amy focuses on these 13 things that mentally strong people don’t do:
1) Feel sorry for themselves
2) Give away their power
3) Shy away from change
4) Focus on things they can’t control
5) Worry about pleasing everyone
6) Fear taking calculated risks
7) Dwell on the past
8) Make the same mistakes over and over
9) Resent other people’s success
10) Give up after their first failure
11) Fear time alone
12) Feel the world owes them anything
13) Expect immediate results
It can be easy to recognize these faults in others, but Amy does a good job of giving examples so you can more easily notice them in yourself. I thought there were some very useful tips in here. The book just didn’t wow me overall.
